This wastes valuable time your front desk receptionist or sales representatives could be spending on other critical tasks.
It's easy to get carried away in a voicemail and include more detail than is necessary. We've all been in that situation where the automated or pre-recorded voice on the end of the line goes on and on with more information than you can take in.
A busy greeting should tell callers that your phone lines are currently in use. You can direct people to wait on hold or leave a message. For example, “Hello, you’ve reached [company name]. Let them know if they’ll need to make a selection from a menu, or have their account number or member ID ready. You’ve got their attention at the beginning of the call, whether they’re dealing with an automated recording or an actual person, so let them know what information you’ll need right off the bat– it will save everyone time in the process.
