To access your cell phone voice mail from a landline or another phone, dial your cell phone number and you will hear your voicemail message. Interrupt the message by pressing * (AT&T or T-Mobile) or # (Verizon), then enter your voicemail PIN code. If that does not work, try searching “calling voicemail from a landline” on your cell phone
When I go to set up voice mail, it asks me to enter a voicemail code, add a 4 digit number and then it asks to confirm that code, I hit done and it tells me that voicemail is currently unavailable, try later.

It seems foolish to buy more hardware to record from the iPhone—the most advanced hardware in your pocket, if not your entire home. But the option exists.
