If a phone rings once and then goes to voicemail or rings only briefly, it usually means either that your call is blocked or that the phone is not receiving calls at all. To force close Phone, on iPhone X and later swipe up until you see the apps in task view, then swipe up again on Phone. On iPhone 8 and earlier double press the home button, then swipe up on Phone. You will see all the open app cards.
To set up voicemail on your iPhone, tap Phone on your main screen. Tap Voicemail in the bottom menu. Tap the Set Up Now button. Choose a passcode to secure your voicemail. Use the default greeting or record your own. Finally, tap Save to set your outgoing voicemail message.

Set up Visual Voicemail. If your carrier supports Visual Voicemail, you can set it up with these steps: Go to the Phone app, then tap the Voicemail tab. Tap Set Up Now.
