When you travel outside your home country & you have Data Roaming turned off, you will still be notified via Apple Visual Voicemail when you receive new voicemails.

Go to the Phone app, then navigate to Voicemail. If you've never set up your voicemail, you'll be prompted to do so. Create a voicemail password and confirm it.

You can also re-record your default voicemail greeting directly from your voicemail menu.
Step 3. You will be asked to create a voicemail password. Create a password and then tap “Done”

Note that if your phone rings for any longer than a specified period (15 seconds in default), any re-direction feature that you have activated, such as voicemail or call forwarding, will come into effect. Your voicemail is set up with a default greeting, but you can record a personal greeting any time you want.
Step 5: Once you have been connected, simply inform the support staff that you would like your voicemail service turned off. You can now hang up once they confirm that your voicemail service has been turned off for the time being.
