Voicemail is a method of storing voice messages electronically for later retrieval by intended recipients. Callers leave short messages that are stored on digital media (or, in some older systems, on analog recording tape). Originally, voicemail was developed for telephony as a means to prevent missed calls, and also to facilitate call screening.
Offer other contact information such as a cell phone or email address if you will check it (i.e. on vacation). DON’T: Be too informal, even if you are creating a humorous message. Give a prolonged sales pitch in your voicemail greeting message. Waste a caller’s time with an excessively long greeting before they can leave their message.

(make a little noise in the background). Hi, you’ve reached your friend’s house. He/she isn’t home right now and I took the opportunity to rob it. I was about to steal the machine as well and you called. After the beep, leave your name and number. I will write it on a post-it and leave it on the refrigerator for him/her to see. Oh and one more thing; where did you say you lived?
