Thanks for the explanation. It does indeed sound like there’s no convenient solution till your whole system gets revamped. To briefly explain *why* I don’t want your voicemail enabled: I use my USMobile number as a forwarding line for Google Voice. Google Voice’s voicemail is frankly superior to yours so I want to use it exclusively. When your voicemail kicks in it interferes with Google Voice’s operation, causing me frustration and a real mess. I’ll give some thought to whether I want to be bothered with going through a quarterly exercise of calling and re-disabling your voicemail.
You can record a custom greeting for your voicemail or use the default greeting for Google Voice. Record up to 10 voicemail greetings and select the one that you want callers to hear. Record a new greeting. When you use the Google Voice app, you can record a greeting up to 3 minutes long.
Friendly Voicemail Greeting Example. Hello, this is [your name] at [X company]. I am currently unavailable. My office hours are Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm. Please leave me a message with your name and phone number and I’ll get back to you within [one, two, three] business day [s]. Have a wonderful day.
A busy greeting should tell callers that your phone lines are currently in use. You can direct people to wait on hold or leave a message. For example, “Hello, you’ve reached [company name]. Our representatives are currently helping other customers. Please stay on the line to speak with the next available team member, or press one to leave a message and we’ll call you back.”
Setting up visual voicemail on an iPhone is straightforward. First, check if your carrier allows for visual voicemail; many major providers do.

Unfortunately, UK networks have been slow to adopt Visual Voicemail, and it currently just seems to be O2, EE and Orange that offer it to iPhone users. It’s not available from major networks such as 3 and T-Mobile (even though T-Mobile is now owned by EE).
