I wish that I’d read this a few years ago. I think that we all have a few voicemails that we wish that we could keep forever, but I lost a few a couple years ago. I think that my current system stores them in a digital messaging system, like you mentioned, so they should be able to be saved. Thanks for the post!
Voicemail may not be as popular today as it once was, but it’s still a useful feature; it lets you receive voice messages when you’re unable to answer the phone.

Besides creating an audio file in the right format (Adaptive Multi-Rate), you also need to trick the iPhone to upload your new greeting to the AT&T servers:

9. “Hey, it’s [your name] at [your company] – thanks for giving me a call! I can’t wait to chat. Just leave your name, number and I’ll call you back as soon as I have the chance. Better yet, send me a text with the best time to reach you and the reason for your call. Looking forward to hearing from you.” Text communication is becoming much more relevant now. Direct your caller to text you in case they have a question you can answer easier via text. Who knows, they might prefer text messages to phone calls too.
2. Make a call. Now that your phone has been activated, you’ll need to make at least one call before using your voicemail. That call can be to anyone, whether you catch up with an old friend, make your mom’s day with a chat, or just call your home’s landline.
On Android, you have a couple of different options. If you don’t want to use Google Voice, you may want to check out the free version of any paid apps, as performance can vary from handset to handset.

If you persistently can’t save your greeting, you may need to reset your phone’s network settings. The iPhone needs to access your network’s data connection to save changes to your voice mail configuration, and if it can’t connect to 3G or 4G, it won’t save the changes.
To set up voicemail on your iPhone, tap Phone on your main screen. Tap Voicemail in the bottom menu. Tap the Set Up Now button. Choose a passcode to secure your voicemail. Use the default greeting or record your own. Finally, tap Save to set your outgoing voicemail message.
This can also work with your iPhone or Android, if the above methods aren’t working for you. Just connect your phone into the computer with a 3.5mm audio cable. More on that in a minute.
3. Once there, click on "Greeting" in the top left corner. You can view all your saved voicemails in this menu, as well as set a new greeting.

First I would check the phone to see if it saved the greeting to its files. Some phones do and some don’t. If you are unable to find the voicemail greeting file, google the question for your type of phone. If you’re unable to find it or do it, call youe cell phone carrier to see if they can help. Some carriers still save voicemail greetings on their systems. It’s a great reminder though that if you have a greeting you really want to keep, to make sure you record it and save it to your computer and to a flash drive or cloud drive for good measure.
