To enable Visual Voicemail, you must create a password by accessing your voicemail and then record a greeting as follows: Access the Telephone app, select the Voicemail tab and tap Configure now. Select a password for your voicemail and tap Done. Confirm your password by re-entering it and tap Done. Select Custom if you wish to save a new greeting or Default if you don’t wish to edit your message. Tap Save.
Voicemails have been around in one form or another since the beginning telephone communications. On the "Voicemail greeting" tab, click on the "Record a greeting" button to record the voicemail greetings. A voicemail's time is approximately is around 10 seconds, wait for it to finish. Once done recording, click on the "Stop" button at the center of the recording tab to end it.
If you’ve already created a custom voicemail on your iPhone, you can tap Play to see how your voicemail sounds. If you’re interested in creating a new message, tap the Custom button. From here, you can start recording your message by tapping Record and tapping Stop whenever you’re finished. Once you’re finished recording, tap on Play to make sure the message comes across as you’d like and hit Save (in the upper right) to save it as your voicemail.

A voicemail greeting is a simple message that plays before callers leave a message. It may play either when you don’t answer or if your phone is off. A professional greeting may encourage people to leave messages, which in turn makes it easier for you to get back in touch. Keeping that communication open and efficient may lead to better business relationships. It also helps you put forth a professional image for your business.
I know you probably thought of this, but did you ever record the message someplace else or possibly have it playing while shooting a home video during a birthday or an anniversary?
