Jan 21, 2008 · Where "(your phone number)" is your 11-digit phone number (including 1 and the area code), and "15" is the number of seconds (from 5 to 30 in 5 second increments) that you want your phone to ring before going to voicemail. (The default seems to be 10 seconds.) You can thank me later. 😉 (Hat tip to Bradley!)
Don’t be too hard on yourself. Chances are, that voicemail that you’ve recorded and deleted thirty times has been just fine. Your main goal is not to get in the way of the caller leaving a message, which is exactly what can happen if you overthink it or drone on too long.

I can't get to the phone before it goes to voicemail. I understand that the number of rings the caller hears is controlled by my carrier, Verizon. My husband has a Samsung Galaxy S7 purchased from Verizon and when he calls, he hears 8 rings then it goes to VM. Note that I called Verizon and they set it to 8 rings, the maximum available.

Open the Phone app on your iPhone. Tap Voicemail in the bottom right corner of the screen. Tap Set Up Now. Enter a passcode (the passcode must be four to six digits). Tap Done. Re-enter the passcode. Tap Done. Your voicemail messaging service is now set up and you will not need to use the passcode again unless there is an issue.
