At this point, we can’t be exactly sure why your iPhone won’t play voicemails. The voicemail you play in the Phone app on your iPhone is called Visual Voicemail, which downloads your voicemails from your carrier in the form of little audio files, similar to the music files you listen to inside the Music app.
Voicemail not deleting is another common issue with iPhone users. Again, it isn’t clear what causes this problem, but we do know several different methods to potentially fix it. If you cannot delete your voicemail on your iPhone, try these fixes.
Updated with A13 chip, True Tone display, and Ultra Wide front camera. Order now, launches September 24.
Step 6: You can now find all the call recordings in the My Files app by navigating to Internal Storage > Call folder.
Before we dive into the troubleshooting steps, make sure that you have Visual Voicemail set up on your iPhone. Open the Phone app on your iPhone and tap Voicemail in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. If you see “To retrieve a voicemail first set a password and greeting” on the screen as well as a button that says Set Up Now, then Visual Voicemail has not been set up on your iPhone.
A digital recorder is nice and all, but if you plug a recorder directly into an iPhone using a 3.5mm audio cable, you're not going to hear the call. Using the iPhone headphone jack—assuming your iPhone is so old that it even has one—cuts off the speaker. Get the Recap-C, a $99 adapter that plugs into an older iPhone's 3.5mm jack, with output to a headset as well as to a recorder. The secondary recorder—connected via a 3.5mm male-to-male auxiliary audio cable—is up to you. It could even be another iOS device (or Android or PC, but stick with the digital recorder for simplicity).
1. Launch the Phone application. The numeric keypad can be found near the bottom of the screen if you don’t notice it immediately.
Sorry, Chris and Susan aren’t here right now. Please leave your name and number after the tone. If you are calling regarding an outstanding debt, please leave your message before the tone.

“iPhone voicemail error try again later” is a network issue and may prevent you from accessing the voicemail.
Visual Voicemail is supported by most modern iPhones. However, the carriers themselves also have to support Visual Voicemail. Most major carriers do, but you’ll want to check with your carrier specifically to see if the feature is supported.
Step 2: If your phone is able to use Visual Voicemail, you will see a Set Up Now button. If you don’t see this pop-up or your phone starts to call the voicemail, your phone will not be able to use Visual Voicemail at the moment. You can call your providers and see if you can get it if you want.
