28. Hello, you’ve reached [your name]. I can’t come to the phone right now, probably because I’ve just stepped away from my desk, but possibly because I’m trapped under something heavy. Leave a message and I’ll call you back within one business day — and if I don’t, please send help.

Introduce yourself at the beginning of your message. Take your time in providing your contact information, making sure you are loud and clear in the pronunciation of your name and number.

Translation: If you sound unsure, then your current clients, prospects, and partners won’t be so sure about you either.

No one wants to listen to an unenthusiastic message or do business with an individual who appears unenthusiastic about their business. That’s boring!
