On the Greeting page there are two options. The standard option is to use the default iPhone voicemail message, but you can also record a custom message. If you already have a custom iPhone voicemail message recorded, tap Play to listen to it now. Otherwise tap Custom.

One other option might be a portable speaker that so many stores have now, that you can use to listen to music on your cell phone or tablet. They really amplify sound. I had the same problem -- very frustrating! I powered off my iPhone (Held down lock button and then slid the red slide button) and then restarted (hit the lock button). Another worth considering trick is to remove all the old voicemails that are consuming the storage and creating multiple dilemmas like this. To delete the voicemail here are the steps, Open the Phone app. Tap on Voicemail at the bottom tab. Then tap on Edit at the top-right screen. Select All the Voicemails and at last tap Delete.
