I had the same problem -- very frustrating! I powered off my iPhone (Held down lock button and then slid the red slide button) and then restarted (hit the lock button). I was then able to record my voicemail greeting. Hope this works for you as well. Informal voicemail greetings are those that don’t adhere to the rules of professional and business voicemail greetings. Here, you are free to just leave a simple greeting, or use it to show your more witty side. This style of greetings can be used for both home and business if you like, depending on the type of caller you expect. For instance, a novelty shop could probably create a rather informal message, using sound effects that represent the type of items they sell.

Yes, though if there's no preexisting greeting the GUI won't detect it if placed in the filesystem. I suspect a database entry is needed for the GUI to "see" the greeting. As a workaround a greeting could be recorded (so that the database entry is present) and the file replaced, but that's getting to be quite a task end-to-end. Also I don't know if the database stores the length of the recordings, which could be problematic during playback if the original and replacement audio files are different lengths. I will do some testing. Thanks. Aug 16, 2018 #4

Why would you remove support for this? I'm completely amazed. I thought my old custom greeting got lost during an update but not to have a BASIC feature that has been available since Skype's inception is just foolish. I now can't change my message if I'm on vacation or travelling on business or anything. This is a major step backwards in terms of functionality. I'm pretty sure Microsoft is trying to let Google take over the world. In reply to JamesWEwing's post on March 13, 2018
Voicemail greeting is a short message that is played before a caller records a message. Via the greeting, you can inform the callers your information, like when you will be available, other methods to contact you, or other options that the caller can use to receive assistance.
If you are setting a new iPhone voicemail message for work, it is a good idea to make sure your message is professional and that you avoid common mistakes. MightyCall recommends not using, “Your call is very important to us…” to start your message.
