Your clients don’t have a lot of time, and neither do you. Use the following short voicemail greetings to get to the point quickly and invite them to leave a message.
“Bet you thought I was going to answer the phone. Well, I’m not. On the other hand, I’d really like you to leave me an inspiring message so that I won’t hesitate to call you back as soon as I can. Thanks.”

If I'm out, please leave a message and I will call you shortly.” [no mention as to why you'd call anybody “shortly”, but that's prolly not the hill i wanna die on right now].

This script is very informative for motivated sellers. However, I do not have the years of experience you mentioned in the beginning. Still worth a try because I can tweak it.
The right way to leave your phone number is to start saying your phone number with your area code and then take a 2-3 second pause while the person listening to your voicemail message gets a pen and paper. Then, continue with the next 3 digits, make another 2 second pause, and then say the last 4 digits. Then, slowly repeat your phone number again.
Thanks for calling Dial-An-Idiot. Right now, all our idiots are busy. After the tone, leave your name and number, and we'll have an idiot return your call as soon as possible.
