So, I finally did it. Here’s my process for developing a professional voicemail message in 10 steps:
1.) Herzlich willkommen bei der Mustermann GmbH. Leider ist das Büro derzeit nicht besetzt oder Sie rufen ausserhalb der Geschäftszeiten an. Sie können aber gerne eine Nachricht hinterlassen, oder eine Email an [email protected] schreiben. Vielen Dank für Ihren Anruf.

14. Hi, you’ve reached [business name]. We can’t take your call at the moment, but if you leave your name and number, the next available team member will return your call as soon as possible.
A professional voicemail greeting should be no longer than 60 seconds. List the important information we've discussed above, provide alternative methods of communication and close with a thank you.
If the you haven't changed your personal greeting, a default system greeting will be played for callers. For example, "Please leave a message for John Smith. After the tone, please record your message. When you finish recording hang-up or press the pound key for more options."
Bonus Tip: If you find that people get cut off before completing their message, call your cell phone carrier and for a couple dollars a month, you can lengthen the time people have to leave you messages.

Hello. This is Fiona. Thanks for calling. I'm sorry that I’m not able to take your call at the moment. However, if you would like to leave me your name, phone number and a message, I’ll make sure to get back to you as soon as I can.
6. “Thanks for calling [company name]. You must be calling as you’ve heard about our new [new product, deal, offer here]. We are pretty excited about it, too. Leave us your name, number and the best time to call and we’ll follow up and answer any inquiries you may have. We’re looking forward to speaking with you and updating you on what’s new with [company name].
