Your voicemail is important. Keep in mind, this is essentially one of the first impressions the hiring manager will have from you. You need to make sure your voicemail is as professional as possible. Whether you are trying to be funny, trying to show off your singing abilities or shouting in the car with the windows down, chances are the hiring manager won’t be impressed. Go into a quiet room and record a simple, “Hi, you’ve reached Kim Costa. I’m sorry I missed your call, but if you please leave your name, number and a brief message I will get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks!” You really can’t go wrong with this. Trust me when I say that hiring managers probably don’t want to hear your high school’s fight song.
So, I finally did it. Here’s my process for developing a professional voicemail message in 10 steps:
.
Turn on your Skype voicemail in Skype preferences and listen to your Skype voicemails. For more info, visit http://bit.ly/w2nxvC
This is it. If you are not satisfied with the custom voicemail greeting, then follow the same steps and do it again.
From your home phone: It only takes a few minutes to setup your voice mailbox by phone: Dial *98 from your home phone. The system may take 5-7 seconds to begin voicemail setup. When prompted, enter a 6 to 10 digit PIN, then press #. (If you make a mistake when entering your PIN, press * to start over.) Re-enter your new PIN, then press #.
How to set up your voicemail PIN: After you are enabled for Skype for Business Phone Service, you will receive an email that includes a PIN for your voicemail. Refer to that email, then: Call the Outlook Voice Access number, 785-864-1900 or 4-1900. Enter your temporary voicemail PIN at the prompt.
Having a dedicated emergency contact will help make sure anything important that comes up is taken care of. Another option is directing callers to a separate answering service.
In this post, I’ll share what makes a good voicemail greeting — and the best voicemail greeting scripts you can use.

The main point that we want to drive home with this article is that you shouldn’t overthink your business voicemail greeting. Just keep it short, and state the relevant information.
When you frequently update your business greeting, there is a chance more people will listen to the message. You can update your voicemail with relevant information about your business as a way to keep your customers well informed.
You don’t have to spell out every single thing that you think they might want to know. Have some faith that your callers will be able to figure things out on their own. Be natural but informative.
