Josh, thanks a lot for this. I did it, and got a prerecorded message uploaded to Skype. The audio quality is a little “mooshy” and distorted, but I guess it’s better than trying to record with a speaker up to a microphone. Any idea how to improve the audio quality?

Call your iPhone from another phone and try to leave yourself a voicemail. Go to the keypad and press and hold on the 1, or press the Call Voicemail button. Open your Android’s Settings. Swipe down from the top of the screen, then tap the gear-shaped “Settings” Scroll down and tap Apps. Scroll down and tap Phone. Tap Storage. Tap CLEAR DATA. Tap OK when prompted. Clear the Voicemail app’s data if necessary. Call your carrier to report the problem.
KPIs like the number of voicemails left can be a great indicator of how well even the smallest of changes make a difference in the number of voicemails received. If you decide to speak louder, keep track of the potential increase or decrease to determine if your changes had any effect.

This is the type of message you should aim for when you are recording an answering machine greeting at your place of business. Some people do need to leave other information for business salutations, such as office hours, and they may leave special messages when they’re on vacation. Name of the business, or your name can be important too, since people may want to be sure they’ve reached the right person or business. Answering machine greetings should be pleasant in tone.
