Instead of leading with tired old lines like 'Your call is important to us', brush up on your telephone etiquette and start your voicemail with a thank you.
(Posted because last time I mentioned thinking about doing this, a lot of you said WOW YES I SHOULD DO THAT THING-- so here is the wording I settled on, but it'd be great to know what you decide on if you do something similar!)
As I mentioned above, some words like ‘can’t’ are often mispronounced by non-native speakers and it can sound like a swear word!
