Being able to set your own voicemail greeting is essential. Not only does a personalised message let your contacts know they're leaving a voicemail with the right person, it's especially crucial if you use your phone for work. Having a professional voicemail greeting may be the difference between a new opportunity and a missed caller.
Feel free to add a personal touch to make your voicemail message fun and interesting. Clients will feel reassured when they know their messages have been received and you will get back to them.
Writing a script doesn’t mean you have to write a speech. A simple greeting is fine, like this sample voicemail message:

The NHS *shouldn't* leave voicemail. At least, the bit where I used to work had a policy that one does not leave voicemail, since you don't know who will listen to it and thus you can't ensure confidentiality.[1]

Some people, even most people, would always rather just speak to a person first, rather than listen to a recording of your office directory or department extensions. If you want to offer the operator first, try this:
6. Hello, this is [your name] at [your company]. I am unavailable at the moment, but please leave your name, number, and the reason you’re calling, and I’ll call you back as soon as possible.
