If this is an emergency please hang up and dial 911otherwise please stay on the line and leave leave your name, phone number, and reason for your call I will return your call as soon as I can.

The second example lets the caller know that there will be a delayed response time. This keeps the caller from thinking you're negligent in returning his or her call.
You’ve reached ARC Construction, leaders in home remodeling and construction services. We are pleased to announce that we were recently named ‘Best Local Contractor’ by the Phoenix Herald, and we finished another year ‘Complaint Free’ from the Better Business Bureau! It’s just the kind of service you’d expect from your hometown professionals. We are sorry we are unable to take your call at this time, please leave a message, and we will get back to you as promptly as possible.
State your name clearly so the caller knows they have the right number. 3 of the messages I heard last month were missing his/her name.

As you prepare to work from home, consider updating the outgoing message on your desk phone so external callers know you are working remotely.
These are just a few ideas to get the gears turning. These are simple examples, but don’t be afraid to show a little personality.
The first thing your callers should hear is the name of your business or organization. This assures them that they have dialed the right phone number and keeps them on the line. You may also want to include your address if there are multiple companies with the same name.
If you’re going to start with a common statement such as ‘Your call is important to us’ and the other statements you have heard, your prospects are going to walk away.
If you still have this for a greeting, you might be interested to know that your friends hate you.

Expand your opening to with 'Thank you for calling [insert company/individual name]' or 'You've reached the voicemail of [insert company/individual name]'. This personal touch goes a long way towards building a rapport even when you're not available to answer the call directly.
